HIT106.9 Northern League One Round 15 Preview: BelSwans eager to challenge Toronto for crucial three points

Belmont Swansea v Toronto Awaba

Belmont Swansea will look to challenge league leaders Toronto when they battle it out on Saturday.  

BelSwans were able to walk away with an impressive 3-0 victory over South Cardiff in Round 14 on Wednesday night.  Reece Newton got the ball rolling by opening the scoring just three minutes into the game. Five minutes later, Hall doubled the lead, and Finn Herivel sealed the victory with a goal in the final minute. 

BelSwans, have boosted their title hopes by moving up to fifth place in the standings. Notably, their victory allowed them to leapfrog South Cardiff and Wallsend, both of whom suffered defeats in their respective matches. 

The Toronto Stags secured a narrow 2-1 win against the Thornton Redbacks. Jarrod Purcell gave the Stags an early advantage by scoring within the first two minutes. The Redbacks equalised just before half-time, but the Stags took the three points from an own goal midway through the second half. 

With the midweek result, the Stags have extended their lead at the top of the table by four points.  



Singleton Strikers v Wallsend 
Howe Park, Saturday 27 May 2:30pm 

Singleton will look to cement their place in finals football when they take on Wallsend at Howe Park on Saturday.  

The Strikers had a strong start to the season, leading the competition for several weeks. Now, they aim to maintain their winning streak and challenge the frontrunners, the Toronto Stags, and the other teams in pursuit of the title. 

Wallsend suffered a 2-1 defeat against Kahibah in their Wednesday evening clash. As a result, they currently find themselves in seventh place with 15 points.

For Wallsend, securing three points in the upcoming matches becomes crucial to their aspirations of staying in the race with the leading pack. 



Thornton Redbacks v Cessnock City Hornets 
Thornton Park, Saturday 27 May, 2:30pm 

The Redbacks and Hornets will be desperate for points in a bottom-of-the-table clash on Saturday.  

The Redbacks narrowly lost to table-topping Toronto Wednesday evening 2-1 from an own goal. 

Despite the loss, the Redbacks showed resilience and put up a strong fight against the league leaders. 

The Hornets went down 4-0 to high-flying West Wallsend who have established themselves as title contenders from a rich vein of form over the past few weeks.  

For both teams, the upcoming match presents an important opportunity to earn valuable points and make strides up the league table.  



South Cardiff v Kahibah 
Ulinga Oval, Sunday 28 May 2:30pm 

After a disappointing 3-0 loss to Belmont Swansea on Wednesday, South Cardiff will be eager to bounce back and regain their winning momentum against Kahibah.  

The Gunners have experienced a slump in form throughout the month of May, which has seen them drop to sixth position the table after playing 12 matches. 

South Cardiff will be looking to regain their footing and overcome their recent setbacks, while Kahibah will aim to maintain their winning streak and solidify their position in the top echelons of the league. 

Kahibah are enjoying a surge in form, propelling up to third on the table. In their Round 14 match against Wallsend on Wednesday, Jenson Hunt and Jamie Hadlow found the back of the net on either side of half time securing a 2-1 victory.
