Lambton Jaffas and Edgeworth FC will represent northern NSW in the 2024 Australia Cup round of 32.
The NPL Men’s NNSW clubs won their respective seventh preliminary round matches this week to book their spots on the final rounds of the 2024 competition.
Lambton downed Broadmeadow Magic 2-1 at Magic Park on Wednesday night, with Patrick Bond heading home the winner for the Jaffas in stoppage time.
Jayden Stewardson had given Magic the lead in the first half after he sliced the ball past goalkeeper Ben Kennedy. But the Jaffas struck back in the 78th minute with a strike from substitute Bailey Newton before securing the win through Bond in the 92nd minute.
Edgeworth beat Newcastle Olympic 1-0 at Darling Street Oval on Wednesday night thanks to a 22nd minute goal from Ryan Feutz.
It is the second year in a row that Edgeworth have qualified for the round of 32 and the sixth year overall since the start of the competition in 2014.
It will be the Jaffas’ second time in the national competition and the first since 2016.
Jaffas and Edgeworth will also face each other in the NNSWF Men’s State Cup Final at Darling Street Oval, Hamilton on Saturday 20 July. The day will also see community clubs Newcastle Croatia FC and Inverell FC go head-to-head in the Men’s Community Plate Final.
NNSWF General Manager Football Operations Liam Bentley congratulated clubs on their outstanding achievement.
“Jaffas and Edgeworth have had great success in our region and we are thrilled that they will have the opportunity to continue that on the national stage,” Bentley said.
“The Men’s State Cup Final and Community Plate Final will also be a fantastic chance for the two premier clubs and two community teams to be showcased to the region.
“We wish them all the best in the next stages of the competition as they represent northern NSW with the whole nation watching on.”
The Australia Cup 2024 round of 32 will be played over two weeks in early to mid-August.
