Round three of NNSWF’s Women’s Leadership Program wraps up

Northern NSW Football has concluded the third Women’s Leadership Program, aimed at empowering women involved in football to have a stronger, more positive influence on sport.

The program provides five weeks of online and face-to-face networking and learning opportunities for established and aspiring female leaders within football across northern NSW.  The program helps to increase the number and capacity of women in decision-making roles across all levels of the sport.

All 22 participants attended a two-day conference in the program’s third week at Sails in Port Macquarie. The conference allowed all participants to come face-to-face with each other and build relationships between club volunteers, committee members, administrators and NNSWF staff for improved support.

Founder of Monarch Management Monica Beazley facilitated the program, with Maitland FC NPL Women’s NNSW assistant coach Mackenzie Davis assisting.

Julia Weir from Singleton Strikers FC and Urunga FC President Jessica Snow took valuable experiences and learnings away from participating in the program.

“The most important thing that I have learnt is how I can be the best leader by being myself,” Weir said.

“This course has also taught me that my key strengths don’t have to be associated with my gender and I have learnt that whatever I hold within me can be used as a tool in order to lead, guide and support those around me.”

“The women in the course have been exceptional. These women have given me a sense of belonging and assurance that I do belong in the president position as an Indigenous woman,” Snow said.

“This course has changed my life and changed my perspectives on things. It has given me so much more energy to go back to my club to continue my work.”

NNSWF Legacy Development Officer Helen Moseley was thrilled with the program's success and identified achieving a ratio of 40 per cent male, 40 per cent female and 20 per cent of any gender in the organisation as a goal.

“The Women’s Leadership Program is a fantastic opportunity to network and connect with women in different roles across football,” Moseley said.

“The variety of experiences that these women bring allows each participant to expand their understanding of the game and the tools they need to continue to have a positive impact on the way football is run and is enjoyed.

“We had 22 participants take part in round three of the program which takes it to a total of 70 women from across northern NSW that have participated in the program.
