THEY have been the top two teams this season.
Now the Urunga Raiders and Boambee Eagles are set to play off for the big prize in the inaugural Coastal League One Women grand final.
The Raiders and Eagles will face off to become the first champions of the new competition, on Saturday afternoon at the Ce.x Coffs International Stadium.
The Raiders take a 16-match winning streak into the season decider, which includes their 5-2 win against the Macleay Valley Rangers in their semi-final last weekend.
The Raiders will look to cap off a magnificent season with a grand final victory, a season in which they won all 15 games on their way to finishing as premiers.
The Eagles finished the home and away season in second spot and progressed to this season’s grand final with a 3-2 extra-time win in their semi-final against the Coffs City United Lionesses.
The Raiders won all three meetings against the Eagles this season, including a 4-2 victory in their last meeting in July.
The two clubs have been the standout women’s teams in recent years, with the Eagles finishing as premiers of the women’s 1st division competition in 2021, while the Raiders won the women’s 2nd division South grand final in 2020, and the Eagles won the 2019 Women’s Premier League grand final.
The two clubs have played off in the last two grand finals, with the Raiders taking the honours in 2020, and the Eagles in 2019.
Eagles coach Neil Witherdin was under no illusions of the tough task that lay ahead.
“We’re up against it, and Urunga are red hot favourites and will be hard to beat,” he said.
“Getting the chance to play Urunga is a privilege, and we will roll up and try our best.
“Nothing is impossible, just difficult.”
