End of the road for Tigers and Woolgoolga in Australia Cup as participation spikes

IT’S the end of the road for both the Coffs Coast Tigers and Woolgoolga United in this year’s Australia Cup.

Both clubs bowed out during the fifth round of the annual national knockout competition last weekend.

The Coffs Coast Tigers went down 4-0 to the Bangalow Bluedogs in their Australia Cup showdown in Bangalow.

Woolgoolga United’s Australia Cup run came to an end at the hands of Alstonville FC, who had a 2-1 victory at home against the Wolves.

Alstonville FC and Bangalow Bluedogs have now progressed to the sixth round and the stage with the Newcastle teams, with both clubs two wins away from qualifying for the national round of 32 as one of the two Northern NSW Football representatives.

North Coast Football clubs will now turn their attention to the Challenge Cup; the annual preseason tournament hosted by the Nambucca Strikers, which kicks off on Friday.

Both of these clubs have already posted record participation numbers for the 2023 season.

It’s only March and both clubs have already surpassed registration totals for the whole of last year.

For the first time in years, Coffs Coast Tigers have more than 200 registered players which is already 8 more than 2022.

Woolgoolga have a whopping 460 registered players which is an 8% rise on their total for 2022.
