Woolgoolga Wolves Claim Premier League Title with Commanding Victory
The Woolgoolga Wolves clinched the North Coast Football Premier League crown in emphatic fashion on Saturday, overcoming Coffs City United 2-0 on their home turf in Woolgoolga.
The match got off to an unexpected start when a troop of kangaroos invaded the pitch, adding a touch of local flavour before the serious business began. Once the field was clear, Woolgoolga wasted no time asserting their dominance, setting the tempo from the opening whistle.
The newly crowned Premiers showed no signs of complacency despite having the trophy presentation before the match. Their relentless pursuit of an unbeaten record was evident when James Gorrie broke the deadlock just 12 minutes in. Gorrie’s darting run through the heart of the Coffs defence culminated in a thunderous finish that left the goalkeeper with no chance.
Woolgoolga’s lead was doubled on the half-hour mark by their prolific striker, Nick Casey. The Wolves' top goalscorer rose above the defence nodding the ball into the back after being denied by the goalkeeper on his first attempt.
With the regular season now wrapped up, attention shifts to the grand final series. Round one kicks off on Saturday, August 24, followed by round two on Saturday, August 31. The grand final, set to be a showdown of the season, will take place at C.ex Coffs International Stadium on Saturday, September 7.
